Rainshadow Eternity RX10 - CCS (Common Cents System) Measurements

The Comment Cents System for measuring fishing rods and fishing rod blanks was developed by Dr. William Hanneman. It is an objective system for comparing the characteristics of one rod or rod blank to another. Batson has recorded the following CCS measurements for our Eternity RX10 series as listed below.

Intrinsic Power (IP): The number of grams required to deflect a rod blank’s tip from a horizontal orientation a distance equal to 1/3rd of the rod blank’s total length. (e.g. an 84” rod blank would have a tip deflection distance of 28”) The fixture holding the rod blank butt should stop securing the rod blank at a distance from the butt equal to 1/10th of the total rod blank length.

Action Angle (AA): The measurement of the rod blank’s tip in degrees when the blank is deflected to the intrinsic power distance detailed above. Typical measurement ranges are from 60 to 85 degrees. The greater the angle measurement, the faster the action of the rod blank.

Effective Rod Number (ERN): A measurement derived from intrinsic power (IP). This specification offers a starting point for selecting an appropriate AFFTA rated fly line for a CCS-measured fly rod.
